LAIK

The Brief.

Laik is a boutique holiday letting company based in Windermere, offering unique, carefully curated properties across the Lake District. The founders approached me to design a suite of templates for their digital advertising display screen, situated in the window of their street-level Windermere office. Three template types were required; a New Property template to showcase available lettings, a How We Work template to communicate Laik's approach and benefits, and a Statistics template to position Laik favourably against competitor brands.


The client provided a brand style guide, logo, and property imagery as a starting point. To ensure the designs felt authentically on-brand, I conducted independent research into Laik's social media presence, discovering a distinctive use of shapes to house information and add visual structure. As these assets weren't included in the supplied materials, I recreated them from scratch, using them throughout the templates to add depth, visual interest, and brand consistency.

For the New Property template, the focus was on showcasing the properties themselves, with imagery taking centre stage. Recognising that copy would strengthen the template's impact, I incorporated varying levels of supporting information across the concepts; some featured a full property description, location detail, and iconography, whilst others focused purely on the property name and location, allowing the imagery to lead. A range of concepts were explored spanning light and dark colour themes, conservative and more contemporary layouts, to understand how far the brand could be pushed within the constraints of the style guide. Gradients, opacities, shaped containers, and Lake District landscape imagery were used as backgrounds to add visual depth and atmosphere. A QR code was also incorporated into several concepts, enabling passersby to scan directly from the office window and link through to the property's booking page. The client expressed a strong preference for the darker colour themes, which set the creative direction for the remaining templates and ensured a cohesive visual identity across all three.

Variations of the "New Property" template

For the How We Work template, the brief was to communicate Laik's approach clearly and compellingly. An initial version included descriptive copy alongside each point, but on reflection I felt this would be too text-heavy for a display screen viewed through an office window, where a passing audience would have limited time to engage. The copy was streamlined to key points only, presented in both a table and a list format to give the client flexibility to alternate between the two. The same visual language established in the New Property template was carried through, alongside lifestyle imagery to bring warmth and realism to the designs.


For the Statistics template, two versions were produced. The first featured a comparison table contrasting Laik against competitor brands; Laik's branding was applied with confidence and vibrancy, whilst competitor columns were intentionally rendered in muted, duller tones to visually convey the difference in quality and professionalism. Check and cross icons reinforced the comparison clearly and concisely. The second version adopted a more contemporary layout, with Laik's key selling points presented against a dark background with brighter accent colours applied to make each point stand out. Branded design features consistent with the other templates were incorporated into both versions to add texture and visual interest without overwhelming the content.


Following approval of the preferred concepts, assets were prepared and delivered to the client. The templates are still in active use on their digital advertising display today, a pleasing outcome that demonstrates both the longevity and practical value of the work.
